Why protect your dog\u2019s paws from salt? <\/h2>\n

Road salt is the number one enemy of bare paws. It\u2019s spread on streets and sidewalks to melt ice and snow, but it can dry out and irritate your dog\u2019s skin and even cause small wounds or deep cracks. Especially between the toes, where salt and snow clump together, little splits or cracks can form quickly. And if your dog licks their paws after a walk, they ingest the salt \u2013 which can lead to diarrhoea, vomiting, or even stomach pain. Not exactly a party, right?<\/p>\n

Small dogs, sensitive paws, and a thin coat: extra care needed <\/h2>\n

Small dogs, dogs with thin coats, or dogs with sensitive paws are extra vulnerable in winter. Because of their lower weight and bare feet (no shoes!), they\u2019re more quickly affected by cold, snow, and road salt. Dogs with long hair between the toes also tend to collect snow and salt more easily. This can be very painful and can even worsen existing cracks. So keep that toe hair short, brush the coat regularly, and check your dog\u2019s paws after every walk.<\/p>\n
