Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a conditioner and a conditioning spray for your dog? You’re definitely not the only one. Both products care for the coat, but they do so at different times and in different ways. In this blog, we’ll walk you through it calmly so you’ll know exactly when to use which product.
At Pawness, we have two care lines: Bark Bliss and Fresh Fetch. Both lines include a conditioner and a conditioning spray, so you can choose what works best for your dog. Or combine them for a complete grooming routine.
Conditioner and conditioning spray: what’s the difference?

The biggest difference is in how you use them. A conditioner is a rinse-out product that you use while washing, after the shampoo. A conditioning spray is a leave-in product that you don’t rinse out. You apply the spray to a towel-dried coat after washing, or in between washes for extra hydration.
In short, the conditioner works deeply and intensively during the bath itself. The spray is a lighter step in the routine that you can also use between washes. Both products hydrate, soften, and help prevent tangles, but each in its own way and at its own moment.
What does the conditioning spray do?
The conditioning spray is a leave-in treatment. That means you apply it to a towel-dried coat after washing, or just in between washes whenever the coat needs a little extra attention. You don’t rinse it out. The spray hydrates, reduces tangles, adds shine, and leaves a mild, natural scent. It also makes the coat easier to brush, which makes grooming much more pleasant for both you and your dog.
Pawness has two conditioning sprays:

• Bark Bliss conditioning spray works with palmarosa, vetiver, and cedarwood. This spray nourishes the coat, makes it soft and supple, and leaves a warm, earthy scent. It’s ideal for dogs with a dry, thick, or damaged coat that could use some extra care between washes.
Fresh Fetch conditioning spray contains lemongrass, peppermint, and spearmint. This spray gives instant freshness, neutralises odours, and keeps the coat soft, shiny, and easy to comb through. Perfect after an adventurous walk or as a quick freshen-up in between.
Both sprays are 100% vegan, free from parabens and sulfates, and available in a reusable 200 ml glass bottle and a convenient 500 ml refill pouch.

What does the conditioner do?

The conditioner is a more intensive-care step you add to your washing routine. After washing with shampoo, you apply the conditioner to the wet coat. Leave it to work for a moment and then rinse it out thoroughly. The formula deeply nourishes the coat and skin, softens the hair, and gives a beautiful, healthy shine. Deep hydration in a single step.
Bark Bliss conditioner is specially developed to intensely hydrate and nourish the coat. With palmarosa, vetiver, and cedarwood for a warm, caring scent. The formula helps prevent a dry or dull coat, makes brushing easier, and leaves the coat supple and wonderfully soft after every wash. Dogs with curly, thick, or damaged hair benefit especially from this.
Fresh Fetch conditioner is the fresh variant, with lemongrass, peppermint, and spearmint. This conditioner deeply hydrates the coat and skin, strengthens the hair, and makes it softer and smoother. Brushing and combing become much easier afterwards. The fresh, uplifting scent turns every bath into a pleasant self-care moment.
Both conditioners are gentle, 100% vegan, and free from parabens, sulfates, and silicones.
When do you use which product?

The spray and the conditioner complement each other really well. You can easily use them together for the best results.
Using both? Then apply the conditioner to the wet coat after rinsing out the shampoo, leave it to work for a bit, and rinse thoroughly. Then gently towel-dry the coat and apply the spray as a finishing touch. This way, the coat benefits from deep hydration and a light, leave-in layer of protection.
Using only the spray? That’s ideal for maintenance between washes to refresh and care for the coat.
Do you have a dog with long, curly, or thick hair? Then the conditioner makes a big difference. Long and curly coats are more prone to tangles, frizz, and breakage. The conditioner deeply nourishes the hair, makes it softer and stronger, and immediately improves manageability after washing. You then use the spray to keep the coat supple and easy to handle until the next bath. This reduces tangles, makes styling and brushing easier, and keeps the coat looking healthy and well-groomed.
For short-haired dogs, the conditioner is also a great extra: it intensely hydrates the skin and gives the coat a healthy shine. In short, every coat type benefits in its own way from the right care.
Long-lasting hydration for a healthy, shiny coat
Both the conditioner and the spray are developed for long-lasting hydration. The conditioner nourishes the coat from within during washing. The spray protects and hydrates the hair’s outer layer, keeping the coat supple, soft, and shiny throughout the day. Together, they create a look that not only appears healthy, but truly is.
The Pawness coat care products are carefully formulated with ingredients you can trust. Think of organic aloe vera as a soothing, hydrating extract, supported by the power of essential oils and plant-based active ingredients. No harsh chemicals, no synthetic fragrance, no silicones. Only what the coat really needs to shine. Ideal for dogs with sensitive skin or a coat that quickly becomes dry, damaged, or frizzy.
