We all know it: the smell of a dog who is way overdue for a bath. Every dog is different, and some four-legged friends start to smell faster than others. Do you have a rascal who can make your whole house smell like dog in no time? No worries, Pawness has plenty of ideas for dealing with unwanted doggy odours! In this blog, we share a few handy tips. Not only to help your best friend smell like roses again, but also to remove that dog smell from your home.
What causes a strong dog odour?
What causes a strong dog odour?
To get rid of an unwanted dog smell in your home, it helps to understand what causes it in the first place. That typical scent is created by the oils and bacteria on your dog’s skin, which eventually make your dog smell like… well, dog. A little doggy smell is of course nothing to worry about. But there’s a lot you can do to make sure your pup isn’t the first thing you smell when you walk through the front door. Luckily, with the right coat care, you can go a long way toward reducing dog odour in the house. And we even have a secret weapon against dog smell!

Wat kun je doen tegen ongewenste hondengeur in huis
To reduce your dog’s smell, proper coat care is essential — and it all starts with a good bath. If your dog currently smells very strong, a grooming spray or dry shampoo probably won’t be enough. The good news is that you don’t have to rush to the groomer. Many pet stores now offer dog wash stations, or you can look for a self-service dog wash in your area. The great thing about these wash stations is that you can also blow-dry your dog there, so you don’t have to deal with that wet dog smell in your home for hours afterwards.

Fresh Fetch Leave-in Conditioner Spray
Once your dog is clean, you have a great base to build on. Brush your dog at least once a week with a good grooming brush, such as the wooden/nylon brush for short coats or the wooden brush for long, fine coats. Of course, PAWNESS has also thought of our smaller four-legged friends — the brushes come in two sizes. Between baths, you can use a leave-in dog conditioner spray, such as the two conditioning sprays in our Care Collection. Want to pamper your pup even more? We also have two delightful dog perfumes in our collection. These give the coat a fresh scent and are the perfect finishing touch to any spa(w) treatment.
And if your rascal eventually starts to smell again, it’s a good idea to treat them to another bath. Use one of our 100% natural dog shampoos. With a solid coat care routine, you can limit full-on wet baths to just two or three times a year. Want to know more about a good coat care routine? Then be sure to read this blog as well.
